Colibrí Adventures--named after the brilliantly versatile hummingbird--offers a series of 1-week adventure programs in Costa Rica for groups of all ages. Each 1-week adventure has a specific theme, around which we provide fun, safe and challenging activities. Programs may be tailored to suit each particular group. The programs are:
You may join a scheduled trip, or organize a group to participate in a Colibrí Adventure at your convenience--whenever you like anytime throughout the year. Your group can be of any age range; kids 12 and under need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Groups typically range from 10-15 participants. Programs include 5 days (+1 travel / free day) and 7 nights in Costa Rica.
A combination riding school and eco-adventure! Buena Vista, Guanacaste and Rincón de la Vieja National Park serve as our base as we ride through the savannahs and rainforests of Costa Rica's northwest cattle country. Riders of all levels are welcome; expert equestrians will work with each participant to improve horsemanship and trail riding skills.
After working the first couple of days with our respective mounts, we will head into the national park for an overnight ride and campout. Our trail rides will take us to beautiful waterfalls, rivers and swimming holes, and thermal waters. We will explore the tropical forest, identify wildlife, and observe the geothermal activity of this active volcano! The experience will satisfy your expectations whether you are a serious rider or just looking for an alternate means to enjoy nature.
Playa Grande and Tamarindo beaches will welcome you
to a warm water kayak extravaganza! Participants will perfect
their skills in both traditional and sit-on-top kayaks. This ideal
section of northwest Costa Rica offers waves for the novice through
the expert.
Skill building will consist of paddling technique, rolling and
re-entry, surfing maneuvers, rescue, etiquette and more. Kayaks
and equipment will be provided, but if you like you can bring
your own. We also will discuss surf kayak competition and how
to rack up points!
We will spend as much of each day as participants wish kayak surfing. We also will paddle into the estuary to observe birds and caimans--small members of the crocodile family--and have the opportunity to visit an island and engage in excellent snorkeling. The beaches also offer a protected area for leatherback turtles-largest of the sea turtles.
Discover Costa Rica's Pacific Northwest--from cloud forest to beach. Hills & flats, waterfalls & swimming holes, hot springs & cool rivers, town & country, surf & sand. Trails and country roads are our routes to daily adventures. Guanacaste--including Rincón de la Vieja, Buena Vista, Santa Rosa and Playa Naranjo--comprises the area we cover.
Besides fantastic scenery, the wildlife will make interesting companions. Typical sightings include monkeys, coatis, agoutis, armadillos, toucans, parrots--and a host of other things if you really look. In addition to sightseeing while cycling, opportunity abounds for technical riding.
We stay in premier eco-lodges four nights and tent camp two overnights. We travel with our own support vehicle, transporting our gear and your belongings (which may consist of other "toys" besides your bike). The group will enjoy fine Costa Rican meals and campfire delights.
Now's your chance to perfect your strokes on both hard and clay courts, all the while improving your español! Depending on the time of year and the weather, we will schedule the activities to take advantage of our tropical climate. Costa Rican tennis pros will deliver portions of the training in English, but you will soon find yourself improving your game in Spanish. Spanish classes will be provided in groups of 4 or less--depending on the level of each person--at the Mesoamerica Language Program.
Bring your own racket and take the opportunity to try out different equipment. Re-stringing is included, and you may want to check out new string options. Consulting is provided for overall fitness, and exercise regimes specifically for tennis will be examined. A Spanish workbook and materials are provided.
